Hi, I am a swimmer entering my sophomore year at the University of North Carolina who saw Mrs Libby in June 09. After college, I was a little out of the groove and about ten pounds too heavy. The dorm food and an unorganized weight program had created bad eating habits, and despite my hopes that it would turn around when I came home, the downward spiral continued. My energy level was depleted, and I was so tired I could sleep for four hours straight everyday. As soon as I started on the program, an immediate difference occured in the way I felt in the water. I had more endurance, wasn't as fatigued during the day, and felt so much better overall. The plan did not leave me hungry at all before practices, and I eat a lot so that amazed me. Mrs. Libby was positive throughout the whole process and as the inches dropped, so did my swimming times. I ended the season 12 sec. faster than what I started with in the 200fly, only .2 off of my best time, which I thought I would never reach again, esp. in the mere 8 wks I had to train for it. When I first started seeing Libby, I was in a weight loss plateau.  I had lost 20 pounds in the five months, but couldn’t seem to lose any more whatever I did.  I knew I still had fat to lose and was frustrated at my lack of progress.  Libby was very encouraging from the start, confident that we could break through the plateau and reach my goals.  She analyzed what I ate on a regular basis and saw that I wasn’t getting enough calories.  Taking into account my busy schedule (and lack of time or desire to do a lot of food preparation) she came up with a balanced eating plan that made sense and was easy to stick to.  I had been exercising regularly, doing mainly elliptical workouts with a little time working with weights.  Libby designed a great workout plan that included both cardio workouts and strength training on all the major muscle groups.  She emphasized the importance of building muscle to increase my metabolism and aid in burning fat.

The most important thing Libby did for me was to take my eyes off the scales and put the emphasis on percent body fat.  She explained that it is possible to be at a desirable weight but still have a high percent body fat.  So while I may not lose weight during a two week period, my measurements usually indicate a loss of body fat and a gain in lean muscle mass, and I know that I am making progress. Since I have been working with Libby, I have dropped nine percent in body fat, seven pounds, and two jean sizes.  I am seeing muscle definition where I never saw it before.  I feel stronger and have great energy.  And I see the fat melting away.

 

Libby has been an incredible encouragement and source of great information.   She is always willing to answer my questions and make adjustments to the diet and workouts as we go along.  And since she struggled with weight loss herself, Libby has been an inspiration to me on what is possible with hard work and commitment to a plan.   ~D.E.
